Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist and anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She has covered several notable stories over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. Mitchell traveled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
