Kellie Pickler is one of "American Idol's" greatest contestants, even though she didn't win the title. Kellie Dawn Pickler was born Kellie Dawn Pickler June 28, 1986 in Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. As she got pregnant, her mother was sixteen years old. Pickler was a troubled child because of her addiction to drugs and alcohol addictions, while her mother abandoned her at the age of two. Morton managed to get the custody of Pickler for two years. But, Pickler acknowledged that not all went as planned. "I can remember when my mom and I in the kitchen and I said to her, 'I'd like God could have me taken away as I'd prefer to not be alive with you.' She pulled out a kitchen knife, placed it on the counter, then informed me that, "Here, you do it." I was in fourth grade. Sure, I'd never be able to take it into consideration yet it's left a lot of emotional scarring," she said. Pickler, who was then twelve years old, was given over to Morton's grandparents after the hearing. Pickler was raised by her grandmothers throughout her life. She credits them with being the most influential individuals to influence her in the course of her life. The mother Faye Pickler died from lung cancer in January 2002. she was to be raised by her grandfather. Pickler graduated with a graduation diploma from the North Stanly in New London, North Carolina.
